Microfinance Bank Staff Docked For Swindling Company N10m

A 32-year old staff of Infinity Microfinance Bank, Akinsowon Olalekan, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling the bank to the tune of N10m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the bank’s branch located at Ikorodu Road in Kosofe area of Mile 12, Lagos, where the bank is located and he was employed as the staff.
According to the Police, the suspect, Olalekan, had between 2012 and March, 2024, stolen the money and converted it to his personal use without the consent of the bank management.
The alleged fraud was discovered when the bank conducted an internal audit and discovered that the money in question was missing. Olalekan was summoned to explain what happened but he was unable to give satisfactory answers on how the money got missing.
The alleged fraud was reported to the Police at Alapere Division. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edema Mojirade, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, S.O.Salihu, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
