Man, 34, Docked For Swindling Insurance Company N16m By Changing Customers Bank Accounts Details

Police Intelligence operatives from the Alausa Division have arrested a 34-year old Insurance broker, Tobeeb Olatunji, for allegedly tempering and changing customers account details in banks and used it to swindle the Insurance company, known as AXA Mansard Health Insurance, to the tune of the sum of N16m in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports the incident happened at the Insurance company located at Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alausa area of Ikeja, where Olatunji works as insurance broker for the company.

 

He has been charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and fraud under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

According to the Police, the suspect,  Olatunji, had between 9th February, 2024 to 2nd May, 2024, altered and changed customers account number to UBA account number, 2284601607 with name Ademola David Amele and Access Bank account number,  0785418533 bearing name of Waheed Olamilekan Bello.

 

After changing the names and bank details, he used them to claim health Insurance sheme of the company.

 

However, the alleged fraud got exposed after an internal investigation by the company’s management. They observed it and handed the matter to the Police for investigation.

 

He was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation and was found culpable after rounds of interrogation for the alleged criminal conduct. He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty before the Court.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
