Society For Performing Arts Honours Governor Ambode

The Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN) has conferred a Special Recognition Award on Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his contribution to the promotion of arts and culture through the creation of platforms for youth empowerment in the entertainment industry.

Governor Ambode was represented by the Acting Commissioner and Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola at the Award night held at the Grand Ballroom, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.

In an acceptance speech delivered by his Special Adviser, Governor Ambode said this administration believed that the entertainment sector is a veritable goldmine that should be exploited for the benefit of the people with a dual purpose of preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.

Ambode affirmed that Lagos State will go the extra length to promote and project our cultural heritage on the global stage and revealed that the State will collaborate with the Federal Government to reconstruct the National Museum, Onikan to global standards.

He assured that the reconstructed museum will be adorned with cultural artefacts and other items of historic significance to reposition and restore the National Museum’s glory as an iconic cultural edifice that has hosted epic arts performances.

Governor Ambode expressed his appreciation of the Special Recognition Award, stating that the gesture will spur his administration to do more in the promotion and preservation of our arts and cultural values for the benefit of the younger generation.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Lagos State, I accept this Special Recognition Award with a promise to do more for Lagos State and our people,” he said.
