Man, 24, Sent To Prison For Stealing N59m Worth Of Goods At Odun-Ade Market

Police intelligence operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos have arrested a 24-Year old man, Ezekiel Timothy, for allegedly stealing 150 bundles of pipes worth N59.950m belonging to Okorondu Chinedu inside Odun-Ade Market in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 20th March, 2024, at the market.
According to the Police, the suspect and others at large conspired, went where the items were parked and carted them away at night despite the presence of security guards in the market.
However, when the owner went to the place the items were parked and discovered that they were missing, he reported to the Police. The operatives then moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N800,000 with four sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 8th July, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
