Police operatives from the Ejigbo Division of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 33-year old lady, Onyinye Emilia Ndukwe, for allegedly smashing the counting machine at Access Bank branch over the bank’s inability to give her cash.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the bank branch’s hall located at NNPC, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where the suspect went to withdraw money.

She has been charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace by damaging the machine and assaulting the bank’s security guard, Adeniyi Adedeji, by dragging his uniform in the process.

According to the Police, the suspect went to the bank to withdraw from her account and she had an altercation with the bank staff, who reportedly told her that she cannot get the volume of cash she wanted to withdraw.

She became angry and insisted that the money she wanted to withdraw was her money and not a favour from the bank but she was ignored by the cashier.

During the altercation, the suspect reportedly took the counting machine worth N500,000, smashed and damaged it.

The matter was reported to the Police at the Ejigbo Division. The operatives then went to the bank, arrested and detained her at the station for interrogation over her conduct.

After exhaustive interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
