A human rights group, Ambassadors Of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF), led by Comrade Saviour Ichie, has called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter of a female Inspector, Amoo Oyeyemi, who is unjustly being prosecuted at the FHQ, Abuja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the now retired DPO at Igando Division, CSP Ekeinde, and OC Family Support Unit, DSP Felicia Akindele, released a suspect who allegedly sexually defiled his then 8-year old stepdaughter.
The complainant, Mrs. Ajike Bolanle Agnes, reported a case of defilement to the Igando FSU on 26th October, 2023, on behalf the biological mother of the victim living in the United States, who asked her to check on her daughter.
Mrs. Ajike visited the home, where the stepfather and daughter were staying and examined the child. She discovered that her private was tempered with as she was allegedly deflowered by her stepfather after some interrogations.
During investigation,  the Police discovered that the victim was defiled severally from 2019, when the victim was 8 years and which continued until 2023, when she attained 12.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the station while the victim was  referred for a medical examination at SARC Alimosho.
However, trouble started for Inspector Amoo Oyeyemi, who was the IPO, when the suspect, Kingsley Agunbiade, was arrested and charged to but the Court did not sit on that day. He was brought back to the Police station and detained in the cell before she went home.
The next day, Inspector Amo resumed duty only to discover that the suspect had been released by the former DPO, CSP Ekeinde and the OC Family Support Unit, DSP Felicia Akindele.
She asked to know what happened and was  told that the suspect fell ill in detention and was released to his elder brother for medical treatment at the Alimosho General Hospital.
Both the suspect and surety did not return to the Police station. As such, a tracker was initiated, which led to the arrest of the surety, who was then charged to court on March 7, 2024, awaiting trial for 6th May, 2024.
The Inspector noted that all efforts made to make sure justice was served were futile, as the complainant remained unsatisfied. The complainant then petitioned against her to SCID Panti at the D10 Unit. Thereafter, Amoo was invited to the Provost office at Force HQ Abuja, where she was detained for 10 days by DCP Hope Okafor (the Provost) on May 22, 2024. It reveals she is currently facing an orderly room trial, with several threats from the Provost to dismiss or de-rank her.
AMPEF, as a human rights body known for its struggle against inhumanity stated:
“It is disappointing that a Police officer, who is upright and outstanding in her line of duty is being tormented”.
“Lagos State is about to lose one of its capable, experienced officers for her excellent decisions in human rights activities, especially in sensitive cases involving children and family matters. (sexual and gender-based violence).”
“We do not understand the interest of DCP Hope Okafor in a matter that’s already in Court.”
“AMPEF seeks the intervention of Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in the case of Inspector Amoo Oyeyemi, for her diligence in delivering her delegated duties uprightly and never perverting justice.”
The Force Public Relations Officer,  ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, while reacting to the matter stated: “The case is that the Woman Inspector has been tried for shady investigation”.
“She didn’t handle the case well and we have every reason to deal with her departmentally. No one witch hunted her, but we have only taken the right decision and steps on her negligence, action and inaction in that matter.”
However, the Police high authority may not have known that it was Inspector Amoo Oyeyemi’s superiors that released the suspect now on the run and was released without her consent.
