The National Chairman of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen in Nigeria and the Executive Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Aarebirin Hon Dr Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has charged Nigerians to reflect on the Nigeria project and their responsibilities as citizens.
In her Democracy Day message, Hon. Dr Olabanji-Oba said, “Today marks 25 years of uninterrupted democracy and 31 years of the historic presidential election widely presumed to be the freest and fairest election in Nigeria’s political history. The annulment of the election result and its aftermath crises still linger in the memory of Nigerians to date”.
“Days like this remind me of the struggle determination and courage of great Comrades, who paid the supreme price for what we all refer to as democracy in Nigeria today. This reminisce should rejig our patriotism to serve Nigeria with our Talent, Energy and Ideas. Giving up on your country will do more harm than good to the unborn generation hence the reason we must keep what is right and change what is not right for good.”
“Understandably, we all have expectations but it is crucial to set the records straight; every citizen should always think of what they can do to grow Nigeria rather than thinking of what Nigeria will do for them.”

“A generation fought British Colonialism, a generation fought the first republic dictators, and a generation fought Imperialism in our society. A generation led the Movements against Military Dictatorship, and my generation is now in the struggle to grow the Ikorodu of everyone’s dream, let’s join hands together to make this effort a reality.”
“As we remember the heroes of our democracy, let’s ponder and reflect on the Nigeria project and our role as Citizens. I join Nigerians in immortalizing Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola who I always regarded as the father of Nigeria’s fourth republic and the true hero of our present democracy. Happy Democracy Day! “Aarebirin Hon (Princess) Folashade Olabanji-Oba concluded.
