The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has stated that the Police will not fold their hands and watch faceless people come to the State to destroy lives and property in the name of protest.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police boss stated this during the stakeholders meeting held at Area M Command, Idimu, which was organized to sensitize the key stakeholders not to support the planned protest in the State.

CP  Fayoade made it clear that the Police will apply use of force to match any group that will want to disturb the peace in the State by creating chance for hoodlums to destroy lives and property under the gruise of protest.

He explained that protest is part of the democratic norms and it is not illegal to embark on peaceful protest.

However, he explained that it has not always ended well because criminals usually use the opportunity to commit crimes.

He stated that the security agencies would want to know who are organizing the protest so that they will know who will be held responsible if there is any breach of public peace.

He urged the stakeholders to warn their children not to participate in the protest and allow the peaceful co-existence among the ethnic groups to continue as the State is the epic-centre for ethnic groups in Nigeria.

He recalled what happened during the EndSARS protest, when many lives were lost and properties were destroyed, stressing that the Police and other security agencies will not allow such to happen in Lagos State.

“We will not allow any group to shut down Lagos because it is the commercial nerve center of Nigeria and the Police are ready to ensure that there is peace in the State ” he stated.

The meeting was attended by top politicians, representatives of the National and Lagos State House of Assembly, traditional rulers from ethnic groups and other security agencies.

Some of the speakers at the meeting enjoined the stakeholders to go back to their various areas and educate people not to embark on the protest and to eschew violence.

They also noted that people are actually suffering due to economic hardship but pleaded that people should have patience as the Government has assured that they will address the situation in no distance time.
