A mild drama played out at Ejigbo Magistrates court after a nursing mother, Mrs.Tawakalitu Shittu turned down the offer by the court to stand as surety for her husband, Rasheed to save him from going to prison.

Thus, her husband, Rasheed Shittu was moved to prison custody pending when he will provide surety for his release from custody.

The 28-year old Shittu was arrested by the police at Igando Division and charged to court for failing to provide money for the treatment of their 2-year old baby. The police also alleged that Shittu assaulted his wife and senior police officer, ASP Adegboye Adeniran which he denied.

However, the presiding Magistrate decided to use his discretion to settle the rift between the couple so that they will go home together and resolve the issue as husband and wife with conditions.

But the efforts of the magistrate failed as the wife refused to stand as surety for her husband and he was taken to prison for the alleged offence.

The action of the wife amused the litigants present in court who wondered why the wife had to refuse to stand as surety for her husband.

An embattled Shittu was alleged to have failed to provide money for the medical bill for their sick baby, Sheriff. This caused serious rift between the couple to the extent the wife followed him and they started fighting along the road before the police intervened.

The incident happened at Ayilara Street in Igando where they resided.

The police arrested Shittu and charged him to court.

 He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail after the wife declined to stand as surety for him.
The matter was adjourned till 15 January, 2018.
