Man, 34, In Trouble For Stealing Gold Bracelet Worth N6.5m At Hotel

A 34-year old man, Okike Nnanna, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a gold bracelet worth N6.5m belonging to one Nwajei Uche at a popular lounge.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 22nd July, 2024 at the Balls Lounge located at No. 6 Kafi Street beside Shoprite, Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect stole the item and escaped before the victim, Mr. Uche, contacted the operatives at the Commissioner of Police Special Squad, Ikeja.

The Police moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After interrogation, the suspect was found culpable and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

However, the Police did not state how the suspect managed to steal the item from the complainant but stated that he dishonestly stole the item before he was arrested.

The charge read:

That you, Okike Nnanna, ‘m’ on the 22nd July, 2024 at about 2326hours at No. 6 Kafi Street, Balls Lounge, Beside Shoprite, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did dishonestly steal a gold bracelet valued Six Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N6,500,000.00), property of one Nwajei Uche ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 (1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 7th October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
