Housewife In Trouble For Inflicting Injury On 7-Year Old Maid

A 34-year old housewife, Mary John, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a 7-year old house maid, John Victory, by beating and inflicting injury on her body. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 6th August, 2024, at Adewusi Street, off Synagogue Church, Ikotun area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect was said to have constantly assaulted the victim to the extent that their neighbours were aware and had tried to intervene in vain.

 

On this particular day when the incident happened, the suspect was said to have seriously assaulted the victim and used a stone to hit her before their neighbours intervened and contacted the Police at Ikotun Division.

 

She was arrested and detained at the Family Support Unit for interrogation over her alleged conduct. She was found culpable for her conduct after interrogation and the Police subsequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged assault.

 

Part of the charges read:

“That you, John Mary, ‘F. on 6th August, 2024, at about 2145hrs at No. 14, Adewusi Street, Off Synagogue church, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault one John Victory, “F” 7years old by beating her and inflicting injuries on her body, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 10 of the Child’s right law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT II: That you, John Mary, ‘F’ on the same date, time and place at the afore said Magisterial District, did threaten to hit one Victory John “F” 7yrs old with stone, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 56 (2) of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.”

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
