Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a 39-year old man, Agusi Chukwuebuka and charged him for allegedly conspiring with a lady, identified as Chiamaka Ofoma, to swindle a company known as Global Anyiwel to the tune of N12m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Agege Motor Road, Mushin area of Lagos, where the company is located.
While the first suspect, Chukwuebuka, was charged for conspiracy and stealing, the second suspect, Chiamaka, escaped and was said to be at large.
According to the Police, the suspect swindled the company to the tune of the said amount but did not state if he was a staff of the company to have had access to such huge sum of the money.
The suspect was alleged to have committed the offence and escaped while the matter was reported to the Police at Zone D Command, Mushin. The operatives then trailed, eventually arrested and detained him for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to have committed the offence and told the Police that he had no such amount to refund the company.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Isolo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Solomon, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. I.O. Williams, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
