Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a 49-year old woman, Mrs. Toyin Adegbola and charged her for allegedly buying and receiving stolen container of food items worth N150m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect, Mrs. Adebola, was alleged to have received the container loaded with the items worth the said amount from the principal suspects, Tunde Yusuf, Ikechukwu Joseph and Bakare Adebayo, knowing fully that they were stolen goods.
The principal suspects were alleged to have diverted the container to Ayobo area of Lagos and sold the items to Mrs. Adegbola for an undisclosed amount of money, which she was already selling before she was apprehended by the Police.
The arrest followed a petition to the Commissioner of Police over the missing container said to have been diverted and sold to Mrs. Adegbola.
The Police boss ordered the team to apprehend the suspects and recover the container. And the Police operatives moved into action and trailed the woman to where the container was off loaded.
While she was selling the items inside the container, she was eventually arrested and detained at the Command Headquarters for investigation.
After interrogation, the Police found her culpable for receiving the container from the suspects which she knew was stolen from the owner.
Consequently, she was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal law of the State.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail with conditions which included two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
