No fewer than two persons have been declared dead in Anambra State, following the occurrence of another tragic accident in the State.
This is coming barely three days after another bloody accident that claimed the lives of many traders on Wednesday after a speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into a roadside market at the Oye Agu Abagana, crushing some traders and their wares.
Confirming the latest crash in a statement to newsmen on Saturday, the Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command RC Margaret Onabe, said the crash occured along the Zone 13 Ukpo axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
According to her, the crash, which involved four persons, occured between an unidentified driver of a private Toyota Camry (with registration number: UWN531AS) and a driver identified as Sani Bappa with a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker (with registration number: ADM619XA).
While noting that the accident occurred at about 7pm on 12th September, 2024, she also hinted that the probable cause of the fatal crash was brake failure and loss of control.
According to eyewitness, “The Toyota Camry’s brake failed, the vehicle lost control, rammed into the tanker and crashed”.
“Three male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash.
One female adult and one male adult were killed, none injured, while two male adults were rescued unhurt.”
“Before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje to the scene, they were informed by DTO Dunukofia that the killed victims had been taken to the mortuary. The rescue team managed traffic and ensured the two vehicles were towed away from the road.”
The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, sympathized with the family of the dead victims while warning motorists to desist from disobeying traffic rules and regulation ensure that they service their vehicles regularly.
