The Saturday, September 28, Anambra’s local government election has been hailed by Ndi Anambra and Nigerians as the most successful to date. The polls showcased a historic display of peaceful and transparent electoral processes. From the ANSIEC’s prompt deployment of voting materials and election officers to the diligent oversight of every polling station by security agencies, the election ensured early voting across all polling units.

Based on video clips from various units in the state, as well as praise from civil society organizations and independent election observers, it is evident that the recent election effectively represents the desires of Ndi Anambra. The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) deserves recognition for its impressive level of preparation and for setting a precedent for transparent local council elections in Nigeria.

The local council election in 2014 was marked by irregularities, violence, and snatching of boxes, and was termed a “scam election” but the recent election conducted by the Soludo administration on Saturday is being commended as the best election in Anambra’s history in terms of accurately representing the people’s feelings. The fact that the APC and LP refused to campaign and ran out of this election indicates its credibility, as the opposition seems afraid of losing in transparent elections. This election has been praised for accurately reflecting the sentiments of Ndi Anambra across all political wards in the state.
