Hon Blessyn Brume-Ataguba Calls For Unity & Progress As Nigeria Marks 64th Independence Anniversary

The Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Delta State in the National Population Commission, Hon Mrs Blessyn Brume-Ataguba, has called on Nigerians to embrace Unity and progress on the occasion of the 64th Independence anniversary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that despite all that the nation was experiencing, there was hope for a better tomorrow for all as the present administration was doing everything to reposition Nigeria and rejig the economy to serve the people better.

 

In her goodwill message to commemorate the independence of Nigeria, the Federal Commissioner noted that the 64th Independence anniversary was a significant milestone in the history and affairs of Nigeria and that all must work together to bring out the best out of the present situation.

‘’Today, October 1, 2024, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s history – our 64th Independence Anniversary. As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I extend warm felicitations to the good people of Delta State and all Nigerians.”

 

‘’As we celebrate, we must dutifully reflect on our nation’s journey since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1960. Our founding fathers’ vision for a united, prosperous, and peaceful Nigeria remains a guiding light. We honor their sacrifices and resilience.”

 

‘’It is worthy of note that Delta State has played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s development, boasting of rich human and natural resources. Our state’s oil and gas reserves have fueled the nation’s economic growth, while our agricultural sector has fed the country. The creativity and innovation of our people have enriched Nigeria’s cultural heritage. Our people have demonstrated excellence in all areas of human endeavours including sports, the entertainment industry, sciences, agriculture, and so on and so forth.”

 

‘’May I use this opportunity to emphasize that the National Population Commission (NPC) where I serve as Commissioner representing Delta State, has made significant strides in promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of our citizens over the years. Such notable achievements include successfully conducting population censuses, providing vital data for policy-making and resource allocation; collaborating with UNICEF to implement a birth registration program, targeting children aged 0-5 years. This initiative aims to:- Ensure every child has a legal identity, Improve access to essential services like healthcare and education,- Enhance child protection and welfare.”

 

‘’Thanks to this partnership, we have so far- Registered over 20,000 children in Delta State,- Increase birth registration rates by 50%,- Strengthened capacity for vital statistics collection etc.”

‘’As we celebrate this year’s independence anniversary, let us therefore foster Unity, embrace our diversity and promote inclusivity. We must, as a nation and people also drive Innovation by encouraging entrepreneurship, technology, and skills development.”

 

’’It is also our duty to continue to invest in Education so as to equip our youth with knowledge and skills for the future. We must continue to invest in and develop our critical infrastructure to drive economic growth.”

 

‘’In conclusion, as we mark this significant anniversary, I urge all Deltans and Nigerians to recommit to our nation’s ideals. Let us work together to build a brighter future, leveraging our strengths and addressing our weaknesses. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!’’, she added.
