Part of the ongoing conversation around the 2024 World Teachers Day is the Presidential Prize for outstanding Teachers and schools in Nigeria. This event saw Anambra State carting away 5 awards including the Best Teacher award in the entire country.
The catcher for me is that four out of the five awards that came to Anambra are enough evidence that Governor Soludo’s huge investments in education, especially in government owned public schools is paying off significantly. From the Best Teacher in the country who emerged from a public school in Ogbaru LGA of the State to the best Principal coming from another government owned public school, the second best primary school which is another government owned public school. All this show that the public schools system in Anambra is breathing some fresh air.
Apart from the massive spike in enrollment into government public school occasioned by the injection of 8,115 qualified and well trained teachers employed by the Soludo administration in less than 2years in office. The free education policy declared by Governor Soludo for all Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools students in the State has added to the surging rate of students who now enroll into schools in the state, this figure is showing way over 60% increase from what was obtained before the Soludo administration. Yet, Governor Soludo has just started.
