Lagos Sports: How We’re Able To Woo Private Sector To Support Us – DG Fatodu

Hon. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission

Overtime, governments at all levels in the country have continued to reach out to the corporate Nigeria and individuals that developing sports is a continuous work that must be jointly undertaken by all the stakeholders.

In Lagos, the relationship between Lagos Sports Commission and the private sector has never been so good like this before. Since the incumbent Director General of the sports commission, Hon. Lekan Fatodu assumed office, things have taken new turn with growing interest by the private sector in the activities of the commission.

Hon Fatodu is just like a Midas Touch.

“When we came in, we discovered that there’s a tremendous trust deficit in the system, and we also discovered that the handshake between the government and the private sector was fast shrinking, and it’s important for us to show that we are dedicated to the job given to us,” said Fatodu while speaking with newsmen after a reception ceremony organised by the Lagos State Government for victorious medal winners at the recently held National U-15 Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

“I am happy to say that we have been able to demonstrate and bring back the trust because everything we are doing, there is a process of transparency, and more importantly, we are good people to do business with and we can be trusted.

“What we did was to first completely eliminated opacity in our process. They can now see that the process is open, transparent and we are reliable. That is the more reason we are getting attracted to the private sector,” he said.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that some of the private companies supporting sports in Lagos were at the reception held for the National Youth Games athletes. The likes of Parallex Bank and Balmoral Group were at the event attended by Deputy Governor, Dr Kadiri Hamzat and other stakeholders in the sports family in the state.
