First-ever Capital City Race Ikeja 2024 Holds Saturday In Lagos

Lagos metropolitan city is breaking a new ground in its bid to have a healthy population with the Capital City Race Ikeja 2024 holding this weekend.

The 10km race is another opportunity for the citizens of the state to test their fitness level and enhance a wellness and well-being lifestyle that will guarantee not only a healthy living but longevity.

These are the words of the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu at a media parley to herald the first-ever Capital City Race Ikeja 2024 scheduled for this Saturday, 23 November.

Fatodu explained that the Ikeja 10km race is coming at a period the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government is promoting sporting activities and physical exercise to foster wellness and the well-being of the citizens.

The Director General said that the race, which has the endorsement of Governor Sanwo-Olu, is being organized with active collaboration of the Lagos State Sports Commission and other relevant government agencies to ensure a hitch free event on Saturday.

To the convener of the Capital City Race Ikeja 2024, Mr Dapo Ajayi, the maiden race was put together to foster healthy lifestyle among Lagosians and to engage the youth positively.

“According to him, “We will deliver a race which everybody will be proud of. Despite the fact that registration has since closed, we are still receiving enquires from all the states of the country as more people want to be part of the exciting marathon in Lagos this weekend.

“We have started distributing bibs for the runners since Monday and we hope to get over1,000 participants kitted before the race. Our plan is to have a sizable number of runners in this first edition.”

On the prizes for the first three runners, he said that the first prize of N500,000 will be won by the overall winner, while second and third place runners will get the sum of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.

“”One of our sponsors, Airtel will be given out some brand new phones to runners on that day as part of consolatory prizes,” he said.
