2 Women Arraigned For Swindling Victims Of N60m Over Visa Procurement

Two women, Chioma Peace Oladipo-Iheanyi, 30 and Nnamani Jessica Chinemere, 28, have been arrested for allegedly swindling one Adefila Adeyinka of Phylarank International Limited and others victims of over N60m over visa procurement in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in Ikeja area of Lagos, where the suspects acted under the guise of being consultants who procure visas for travellers.

According to the Police, the women and others still at large sometimes in May, 2024 at Ikeja allegedly obtained the money in question under false pretense having approached the victims and claimed to be travelling consultants. They promised to procure visas for the victims for different countries namely United Kingdom, Canada and Republic of Ireland and they paid the money.

However, the claim turned out to be false because they did not procure the visas and neither refunded their monies. Rather they went into hiding and disconnected every communication they had with the victims.

The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad at the State Command, Ikeja. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained them at the Command for interrogation.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

Some of the charges read:

“That you, Chioma Peace Oladipo-Iheanyi ‘f, Nnamani Jessica Chinemere ‘f and others still at large on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of Forty Three million, Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira (N43, 340,000.00k) property of Mr. Adefila Adeyinka of Phylarank International Limited, under a pretence of being a travel consultant and to procure United Kingdom, Canada and Republic of Ireland work visas on behalf of his clients, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence Punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Chioma Peace Oladipo-Iheanyi ‘f’, Nnamani Jessica Chinemere ‘f and others still at large on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did obtain sum of Three Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N3, 800,000.00k) property of Mrs. Bakare Oluwakemi under a pretense of being a travel consultant and to procure Republic of Ireland work visa on her behalf, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence Punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNTIII:”That you, Chioma Peace Oladipo-Iheanyi ‘f, Nnamani Jessica Chinemere ‘f’ and others still at large on the same date, time and place, in the foresaid Magisterial District, did obtain sum of Three Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N3, 822,500.00k) from Mrs. Anne Aneathekchan under a pretense being a travel consultant and to procure Republic of Ireland work Visas on her thalf, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence nishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

Count V: That you, Chioma Peace Oladipo-Iheanyi ‘F, Nnamani Jessica Nemere ‘f and others still at large on the same date, time and place, in the Besaid Magisterial District did obtain sum of Ten Million, Five Hundred sand Naira (N10, 500,000.00k) from Ms. Obazee Lorrenta under a pretense of a travel consultant and to procure Republic of Ireland work visa on her behalf, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence Shable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
