Man, 48, Docked For Raping & Impregnating Biological Daughter, 15

A 48-year old man, Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, has landed in trouble for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year old biological daughter in Cross River State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Edem Odo Street, Calabar, Cross River State, where they reside.
He has been arrested and charged for statutory rape and impregnating the daughter under the Criminal Laws of the State.
According to the Police, the man, Umaru, who is a native of Bundugudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, resides in Calabar, Cross River State where he engaged in the act.
The alleged dastardly act got exposed after the victim became pregnant and she revealed that it was her father that impregnated her after he forcefully engaged her in sex.
He was then charged before the Magistrates Court in Calabar, where the prosecutor, O. S. Umoren, urged the Court to remand him in custody while investigations continued. He cited the Police Act of 2020 and the Cross River State Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2016. Umoren stressed the importance of upholding the law in such a grave matter.
However, the defence Counsel, Mohammed Shaibu, opposed the motion, claiming that he had not been properly served prior to the arraignment.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mercy Ene, granted the motion by the prosecutor to remand Umaru until the investigation is completed.
The matter was adjourned till 3rd December, 2024, for mention for the report of investigation by the Police to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
The defendant risks several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.
