How 2 Ladies Used Company’s Name To Open Bank Account & Siphoned N12m From Customers

Two ladies, Aminat Adegoke, 23 and Dara Mobee, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a company, Botad Farm and Botad Ladies Hair and Beauty World to the tune of N12m.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at House 4, Road D Jidan Estate, Isheri LASU Road in Idimu area of the State, where the company is located and they were employed as members of staff.

 

According to the Police, the ladies conspired and opened a Monipoint account with number, 6440502198, Account Name – Botad Empire, with the intent to falsely represent their boss, Botad, which they used to siphon the company’s money.

 

The company’s customers, who paid the money into the account thought that the account was genuine unknown to them that it was secretly opened to dupe the company.

 

However, the matter later got exposed and it was reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the ladies and detained them at the station for interrogation.

 

During interrogation, they admitted to have opened the account with the boss name to collect money from their customers on behalf of the company without the knowledge of the company.

 

The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy, impersonation and stealing.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Aminat Adegoke and Dara Mobee on the 4th day of December 2024 at about 21:00 at House 4, Road D Jidan Estate, Isheri LASU Idimu Road, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

Count II:” That you Aminat Adegoke and Dara Mobee, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal the sum of Twelve Million Naira (N12, 000,000) property of one Botad Farm and Botad Ladies Hair and Beauty world ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 280 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

Count II:” That you, Dara Mobee, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did impersonate Botad by opening an Moniepoint account No. 6440502198, Account Name Botad Empire, with the intent to falsely represent your boss Botad and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos State.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted them bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 13th January, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
