Man, 50, Remanded For Swindling Princess Ejiro Of N6.8m Under False Pretence

A 50-year old man, Abdulramon Adelakun, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Princess Gold Ejiro, to the tune of N6.2m under false pretence. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ademola Adefuye Street, Orelope Egbeda area of Lagos.

 

The suspect was alleged to have obtained both cash and goods worth the said amount under the pretense to export her varieties of goods abroad, which turned turned out to be a scam.

 

Some of the items, which included Food Stuffs, Herbs, Clothes, Jewelries, Drinks and medicine valued N6,291,000 and with total value at N6,791,000, were to be moved to Italy.

 

However, after collecting the goods and the money for transportation, he bolted away and then went into hiding.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the man and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged fraud and stealing.

 

The charges read:

Count I: “That you Abdulramon Adelakun ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal the sum of N6,791,000 Six Million Seven Hundred and Ninety One Thousand Naira, property of one Princess Gold Ejiro, “F” and thereby committed an offence under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

 

“That you, Abdulramon Adelakun ‘M’, on the 4th day of January 2024 at about 1PM at No 8, Ademola Adefuye Street, Orelope Egbeda, Idimu in the Lagos Magisterial district, did obtain the sum of N500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and goods from One Princess Gold Ejiro, “F” under the pretense to export her varieties of goods- Food Stuffs, Herbs, Clothes, Jewelries, Drinks and medicine with the goods valued N6,291,000 (Six Million Two Hundred and Ninety One Thousand) Total Valued N6,791,000 (Six Million Seven Hundred and Ninety One Million Naira) to Italy, a representation which you know to be false and does not exit and there by committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

Count III:”That you, Abdulramon Adelakun ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal the sum of N6,791,000 Six Million Seven Hundred and Ninety One Thousand Naira, property of one Princess Gold Ejiro, “F” and thereby committed an offence Punishable under section 287 of criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Ms K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 13th January, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
