In a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of Police officers and improving state security, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., alongside the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, various dignitaries, and traditional rulers, yesterday officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new Police barracks and accommodation facilities at Ije Barracks, Obalende, Lagos State.
This initiative represents a pivotal step towards improving the living conditions for Police personnel, with plans to replicate these developments in other major cities across Nigeria.
During the ceremony, the IGP delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of this project in the context of the Nigeria Police Force’s rich legacy, established in 1820. The IGP acknowledged the disturbing trend of building collapses within these barracks and commended the previous police administration for initiating a public-private partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force Property Development Company (NPF-PDCC) to remodel and rebuild the police barracks.
The IGP also expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders involved in making this project possible, offering assurance to the construction firms that the Force would closely monitor the progress of the construction to ensure the timely delivery of these modern facilities.
The IGP further urged Police officers to take pride in the new barracks and continue serving the nation with dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
In a similar development, the Inspector-General of Police also attended the Lagos State Security Town Hall meeting, where he addressed the citizens of Lagos State and joined the Governor in commissioning operational assets for the Nigeria Police Force, including over 260 patrol vans, ballistic helmets, bulletproof vests, and more, donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
These initiatives mark a crucial step towards transforming the living conditions of Police personnel and reinforcing the commitment to public safety in Lagos State and beyond. The Nigeria Police Force said it remains dedicated to the welfare of its personnel, committed to enhancing its service to the public and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. The Force urged members of the public to support these initiatives, working together to build a safer and more prosperous society for all.
