Igbo Leaders React Over Chief Chidi Anyaegbu’s Rejection Of Mayor Ndigbo Honour

There has been more reactions by some Igbo leaders over the rejection of Mayor of Ndigbo Worldwide title by the Managing Director of Chisco Motors,  Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that some leaders have expressed their disappointment and regrets while describing the  rejection as a missed opportunity for Ndigbo to be more united and be led by a respected leader with integrity, capacity and honesty.

Some of the stakeholders included Association of Igbo traders, Ifemaka, Ndigbo Media Forum, Oganiru Ndigbo, Igbo Adika, Igbo Bu Ofu, Odi Mma Ndigbo and many other groups, who stated that those who were opposed to the honour to the Chisco Group Chairman did so out of total ignorance and mischief because of the pedigree of Chief Anyaegbu, who holds the title as Okeiyi Amichi.

One of the stakeholders, Chief David Ossai, explained that Mayor is not a strange position in the society and there are instances where people have been given the Mayoral title even a Nigerian abroad.

He explained that the Mayor is leader, whose duty is to speak on behalf of a set of people in a community and tribe as the case may be. And it is a selfishless service to humanity.

Therefore, Chief Ossai posited that the Chisco Group Chairman fits into the honour because he has assisted Ndigbo over the years and giving him the title is well deserved and acceptable to majority of Ndigbo.

On the issue of conflicting with Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide as some people suggested with the Mayorship was total wrong sense of judgment.

There are many other groups existing side by side with Ohanaeze Ndigbo such as Ndigbo in Lagos, Igbo Speaking Community, Igbo Council of Ndigbo and many others.

Another stakeholder, Chief Andrew Izunazor, explained that some people were against the honour because they felt that they cannot intimidate and use the Chisco CEO to achieve their selfish interests.

“What is the rationale in protesting against the Mayorship, which is a platform the Chisco Group boss would have used to assist Ndigbo in commerce and industry including providing enablement to acquire education for indigent Ndigbo through scholarship scheme?” he asked.

“Ndigbo need more cordial relationships with their host communities more than in the previous years. Therefore, we needed one with the Chisco CEO’s quality and charisma to build the bridge between Ndigbo and other ethnic groups in Nigeria.”

Some of the leaders were of the opinion that the Chisco CEO needs to reconsider his position on the matter and accept the Mayorship for the interest of Ndigbo.
