Man, 43, Remanded For Swindling Woman Of N13m Under False Pretence

A 43-year old man, Akinola Femi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining the sum of N13m from a woman, Olushola Akinola, under the false pretence of furnishing a restaurant and bolting away with the money. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in September,2024 at Eyinogun Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos.
According to the Police,  the victim paid the money to the suspect to furnish her restaurant but he collected the money and bolted away. He did not furnish the restaurant as he promised rather he escaped with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the victim.
The matter was reported to the Police at Bureau of Conflict Resolution, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT : “That you, Akinola Femi ‘m’ sometime in September 2024 at Eyinogun Street, Maforuku Oshodi Area of Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of Thirteen Million Naira (N13,000,000.00) from one Olushola Akinola f under the pretense of fumishing a restaurant, which you never did and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II :”That you, Akinola Femi ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisternal district, did steal the sum of Thirteen Million Naira (N13,000,000.00) from one Olushola Akinola and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the nal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor,  Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
