Newly Employed Security Guard Lands In Trouble For Stealing First Day On Duty

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, Lagos have sentenced a 22  years old Security Man, Iloh Isaiah to two weeks of  community service for stealing his employer’s items valued at N10,500 at C- Mart Supermarket in Lekki, Lagos on the first day he was employed.

The convict was sentenced by Magistrate A.O Alogba after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing preferred against him by the Police Operatives of the Maroko Division, Lekki and the facts of the matter presented before the court by the Police Prosecuting Counsel, ASP Haruna Ibrahim who stood in for  Inspector Dupe.

Police said that trouble started for the convict when he was employed to provide security for the supermarket and properties inside but that instead the convict went round the supermarket to steal his employer’s items such Mcvities Short Bread valued at N2,750, Euro Cake Bisco fusion valued at N1,150, Ginger Shot valued at N750, So Fine Hair Cream valued at N1,500 and White Secret Body Lotion cream valued at N3,500 with total value at N10,500.

The convict went home with the items unknown to him that CCTV Cameras had captured him.

Police further said that nemesis caught up with the convict when he resumed work the following day and the security supervisor in charge of the CCTV Cameras at the Supermarket confronted the convict with the pictures of the theft he printed out from the CCTV Cameras and the convict admitted to the theft.

The security supervisor immediately sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Maroko Division, Lekki, CSP Ganiyu Raji who swiftly dispatched his men to the scene to arrest the convict.

After investigation by Inspector Austine Adefemi and team, the convict was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a count charge of stealing.

The offence, the prosecutor said is punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and Magistrate A.O Alogba subsequently sentenced him to two weeks of community service.
