He Dumped Me! – Says Married Woman Who Arranged Soldiers To Attack Estranged Lover
MICHAEL AKINOLA
A 31-year old jilted married woman, Ruby Ujunwa Okafor, has told the Police in Lagos State why she arranged with soldiers to attack her estranged lover, Nwaigwe Emmanuel Bright and forcefully withdrew N1.5m from his account and also collected his gold earrings worth $300,000 Dollars.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the embittered mother of one disclosed that despite the fact that she was married with a child, she maintained her relationship with Emmanuel but he suddenly dumped her without any compensation. She stated that she demanded compensation from him severally if he doesn’t want the relationship any longer but he refused.
Hence, she allegedly arranged with three soldiers, invaded Emmanuel’s house at Young Shall Grow Street, Kudeyinbu Estate, in Ijegun area of Lagos and attacked him. She was not happy that the complainant was no longer interested in their relationship and asked her to go since she was already married and had a child.
She insisted that the complainant must settle her with N2m as compensation for opting out of the relationship but Emmanuel refused. It was at that point that she then arranged with three soldiers, invaded his house and forced him to withdraw N1.5m from his account and collected his two gold earrings worth $300,000 Dollars after beating him mercilessly while promising to come back for the N500,000 balance.
However, her action has landed her in trouble as the man went to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division and reported what happened. She was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct. And while there, she admitted to have done so because the complainant dumped her and she demanded for compensation, which he refused.
The Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and stealing.
Part of the charges read:
”That you, Ruby Ujunwa Okafor and three others now at large, on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal and transferred the sum of N1,500,000.00, from UBA bank of name Nwaigwe Emmanuel Bright with account number 2092351129 into your Access Diamond Bank with account number 0106478788 Ujunwa Chidimma Okafor and two gold earrings valued at $300,000.00 belonging to one Nwaigwe Emmanuel ‘M’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 19th February, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at correctional center in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
