Police operatives from the Ogun State Command have successfully rescued seven victims from suspected human trafficking syndicate on the way to Republic of Gambia.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the victims were rescued in Oja-Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area of the State during the routine operation.

The seven rescued victims were: Emmanuel Anyigor, 25; Chidioke Basil, 20; Osondu Marvellous, 19; John Peter Ogar, 18; Emecheta Chimaodi, 18; Ifeanyi Uchechukwu, 18; and Anizoba Emmanuel, 18.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the rescue and detention of two suspects over the trafficking.

She explained that the victims were on their way to the Republic of Gambia when security operatives intercepted and foiled the suspected human trafficking attempt.

“The seven victims were rescued on Monday along the Oja-Odan/Ohunbe Road. They were being transported in a white Volkswagen bus with registration number KRD 28 YL.”

“The vehicle, a Government of Anambra State-marked bus, was driven by Ezeani John Paul, a resident of Ichida, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State.”
“When questioned, the occupants of the vehicle failed to provide a convincing explanation for their trip to the Republic of Gambia, raising suspicions that led to their interception,”

“Consequently, the driver, Ezeani John Paul, and several other passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody and detained by the Police command.”

Odutola said,“Following the discovery, the driver and passengers were apprehended by security personnel. Investigations into the case are ongoing, and authorities have stated that all suspects, along with the intercepted vehicle, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further enquiries”.

She stated that investigation is ongoing and the suspects involved in the matter will be charged before Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
