The Orashi National Congress (ONC), under the leadership of its President General, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe, has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2025, recognizing the resilience, contributions, and achievements of women in the Orashi region and beyond.

This year’s celebration is particularly significant as the ONC has chosen to honour Her Excellency, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State as the Inspiration of the Year.

Prof. Odu, a distinguished academic, administrator, and leader, has consistently championed the cause of women in governance, education, and societal development.

In his statement, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe emphasized the vital role women play in shaping communities and driving progress.

“On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, we recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women, especially those of the Orashi region. We proudly draw inspiration from our mother, Her Excellency Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, whose exemplary leadership and dedication to service continue to inspire generations. She embodies excellence, breaking barriers and setting new standards for women in governance and beyond.”

The ONC President General further reiterated the Congress’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights, empowerment, and inclusion in leadership. He called for greater support for women at all levels, urging stakeholders to ensure that policies and initiatives favor their growth and development.

As part of the celebration, the Orashi National Congress is set to host series of empowerment programmes aimed at enhancing women’s participation in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development.

International Women’s Day is globally observed on March 8 each year, serving as a platform to reflect on progress made in gender equality and to amplify the voices of women worldwide.

The recognition of Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu as an inspiration to women across the Orashi region underscores the commitment of the ONC to celebrating excellence and encouraging women to reach greater heights.

As the celebrations continue, the call for inclusivity, equality, and empowerment remains stronger than ever. The Orashi National Congress has reaffirmed its stance in ensuring that women are given their rightful place in governance, economic development, and societal transformation.
