Former Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, has tendered an apology to the Ijaw ethnic nationality over controversial remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during a recent live media chat.
Ihunwo described Wike’s comments as a trigger for ethnic discord, stating that it was unfair for Ikwerre people, who have governed Rivers State for 16 years to deny other ethnic groups their turn. He warned that any attempt to undermine the principle of equity could plunge the state into crisis.
The former Council boss also took a swipe at the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly for allegedly obstructing Governor Siminalayi Fubara from presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill. He criticized Amaewhule’s purported ambition to become governor through the “back door,” insisting that such a move would be strongly resisted.
“Nobody can remove Governor Fubara,” Ihunwo declared, urging Rivers people to remain resolute in their support for the governor.
Furthermore, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strides in improving national security but cautioned him to be wary of figures within his cabinet, particularly Wike, whom he accused of working against the President’s good governance agenda.
