Man, 50, Arrested For Calling Police Officer A Thief On Social Media

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police traced Bereola, arrested and charged him for his alleged conduct.

The incident happened at Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute-Metta Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect had a disagreement with the officer over an undisclosed matter, which prompted him to publish the message on the social media before he was traced, eventually arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, KEHINDE BEREOLA ‘M’, on or before the 4th day of February 2025, at Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute-Metta Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conduct yourself disorderly, by gaining access to the internet to publish that one DSP Isiaka is a thief and that he uses the Police force to torment and victimize and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

COUNT II:” That you, KEHINDE BEREOLA ‘M’, on or before the 4th day of February 2025, at Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute-Metta Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did knowingly and intentionally publish, sends message on the internet that the Nigeria Police Force should tell ‘this thief in Police uniform DSP Isiaka Ayole’ to come to Federal High Court, Ikoyi, an information you knew to be false, for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order, causing such message to be sent and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 24 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, CSP Charles Akinrosoye ESQ, then asked the Court to give a date for the hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.M. Kayode-Alamu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
