2 Suspected Vandals Nabbed For Carting Away Armoured Electric Cables

Police operatives from the Commissioner of Police Tactical Squad have arrested two suspected vandals, Rilwan Ojo, 20 and Segun Akinpelu, 29, for allegedly vandalizing armoured electric cables and carted them away in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects,  Ojo and Akinpelu, were arrested at about 5.30 am at Okobaba, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, after they had cut off the armoured cables. They were trying to escape before the Police operatives, who were on routine monitoring in the area apprehended and detained that at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.

 

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Rilwan Ojo ‘M’ and Segun Akinpelu ‘M’ on the 9th day of February 2025 at about 0530hrs at Okobaba, Ebute-Metta in Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Rilwan Ojo ‘M’ and Segun Akinpelu ‘M’ on the 9th day of February, 2025, at about 0530hrs at Okobaba, Ebute-Metta in Lagos Magisterial District, did steal cables value yet unknown property of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.M.Kayode-Alamu, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
