Man, 40, Docked For Beating Wife Mercilessly During Public Brawl

A 40-year old man, Ejike Livinus, has displayed his boxing prowess by mercilessly beating his wife, Chinyere Ejike, inflicting injury on her and throwing her properties outside during a public brawl in Lagos State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Livinus has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for the alleged assault on his wife under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened on 3rd February,2025, at Babalola Bus stop, logbo, Ojo, Lagos State, where they reside.
According to the Police,  the man had a disagreement with the wife at night around 8pm, which led to exchange of words and in the process, he beat her mercilessly and inflicted injury on her body before she was rescued by their neighbours.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ilembe Hausa Division. The man was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against his wife.
During interrogation, the Police discovered that he did not threaten the wife alone, he also threatened to waste their children and nothing will happen.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Ejike Livinus ‘m’, on the 3rd day of February, 2025, at about 2000hrs at No.27 Babalola Bus stop, logbo, Ojo, Lagos State in the Ojo Magisterial District, did assault wife one Chinyere Ejike, F, by giving her fist blows all over her body and thereby offence purishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Ejike Livinus ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully threaten your wife and children with that you will soon waste them, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III: “That you, Ejike Livinus ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by assaulting your wife and throwing her properties out of the house, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 100(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
