Anti-corruption Stakeholders Pour Encomium On Olukoyede
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kaduna State, Sule Shuaibu has applauded the dedication and resilience of the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede in the anti-corruption fight of the Commission.
The commendation was given on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 when the Acting Director, Kaduna Zonal Directorate, Bawa Usman Kaltungo paid him a familiarization visit.
“The Chairman of the EFCC is very knowledgeable and resilient in ensuring that the anti-corruption fight succeeds. The ugly menace of corruption is hydra-headed hence the need for more harmonious synergy between the agency and the judiciary,” he said.
Kaltungo who expressed gratitude to Justice Shuaibu for the support of the state’s judiciary to the successes of the Commission took the opportunity of the visit to express regret on the rising cases of visa fraud, advance fee fraud, land and property fraud in the state and called for more spirited interventions of the state’s Attorney General in containing the ugly trend.
On his visit to the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad M.T Aliyu, Kaltungo also expressed similar appreciation to the Chief Judge for the support from his office to the Commission, especially in the area of provision of additional judges to handle EFCC’s cases. “Kaduna State has been setting a pace by ensuring that all our cases are handled promptly and professionally. This commitment is never taken for granted,” he said.
Justice Aliyu who decried the scourge of corruption in the country, praised the EFCC and Olukoyede for the successes of the Commission in the anti-corruption fight and pledged the continued commitment of the state’s judiciary to the anti-corruption fight.
“We never had anybody fighting corruption in the past like the EFCC as such judges must support the Commission in order to ensure that justice is done and corruption reduced. Your Chairman is doing well. We are feeling his presence. He is a good listener and we also listen to him. I remember my experience at the last concluded NJI Conference. The experience was worth all the effort and time put together,” he said.
At the office of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, the Acting Zonal Director described the Nigeria Police Force as EFCC’s prominent and strategic partner in the fight against corruption and expressed gratitude to the police for its support to the EFCC over the years. “The police are our mentors right from inception hence the need to continuously seek your support as well as sustain a stronger collaborative ties,” he said.
Rabiu in his response, noted that collaboration and synergy were key in law enforcement and as such, must be sustained. “The EFCC and the police are one. No one can separate us and the beauty of this job is synergy among all security agencies. Collaboration is key in attaining success. We need each other. We can also tap into the EFCC’s vast professionalism and expertise,” he said.
On his visit to Hakeem Abiola, the State Director, Directorate of Security Services, DSS, Kaduna State, Kaltungo equally appreciated the Directorate for its continuous support and collaboration with the Commission in the anti-corruption fight and advocated for enhanced relationship.
“Let us sustain and maintain this collaboration in order for us to succeed in our various endeavours. Like Oliver Twist we are soliciting for more assistance and we are also open to render the same to the Security Service at all times,” he said.
In his response, Abiola noted that mutual understanding and support among law enforcement and security agencies were of high priority in the delivery of their respective mandates. “We must understand each other’s role while showcasing the specialities of our various responsibilities. I support the notion that there must be continuous coordination and understanding amongst all security agencies at all times. We must stay on our mandates and still cooperate with each other.”
Speaking with State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, NB Muhammad in his office, Kaltungo expressed appreciation to the Corps for its unwavering support to EFCC’s anti-corruption fight, stating that working together with the Corps was necessary because of NSCDC’s nationwide presence. “Synergy with the NSCDC has become paramount because of your presence all around the country. EFCC needs more sustainable collaborative ties with your agency,” he said.
Muhammad in his remarks reassured the Commission of the commitment of the Corps in support of EFCC’s anti-corruption fight. “The Corps has an anti-corruption department which I will ensure will work closely with the EFCC in order for us all to succeed,” he said.
