The Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos State, Chief Chikwado Lawrence Ezeunara, has called on Ndigbo stakeholders in the Council area to unite and take a common position in the upcoming Local Government elections in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Ezeunara stated this on the heels of preparations by the various political parties to participate in the elections and the need for the votes of Ndigbo in the LGA.

He noted that there was need for all the  Igbo critical stakeholders to come together and agree on how to engage the political parties to know which one among them that will carry Ndigbo  along and protect their interest.

Chief Ezeunara stated that it was necessary for the various Igbo groups including Ohanaeze, Igbo Speaking Community, Igbo Amaka, etc. in the LGA to come together to know which political party will accommodate Ndigbo in various positions like Chairman, Vice Chairman, Ward Counsellors and other appointments in the LGA.

He recalled that in the past, Ndigbo in the LGA had been neglected because they worked at cross purposes and at the end they wil not get any position despite the fact that they have a good number of Ndigbo in terms of population living in the LGA  but will not have any say in the democratic process in the LGA.

Chief Ezeunara explained that when Ndigbo come together leveraging on their population in the LGA, they will not be neglected and they will get better bargains from political parties, which will cede some positions to Ndigbo.

He stated that in the past, Ndigbo has worked without unity and common purpose which has affected their political aspirations because at the end,  they will be used and dumped without getting any position that will protect their interests.

The Ohanaeze Chairman stated that with the population of Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin LGA, they should be involved in the electoral process, negotiate and be given some positions because of their population. And it is time to discuss with political parties, who will cede positions to Ndigbo in the LGA.

He enjoined Ndigbo in the Wards to the LGA to participate fully in the electoral process and get ready for the elections  to vote the political party that will protect their interest in the LGA after the Igbo stakeholders meetings.
