Woman Mistaken For A Ghost As Neighbour Pronounced Her Dead
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 28-year old housewife, Mrs. Bola Olanrenwaju was shocked as their neighbours ran away from her, mistaking her for a ghost that came to attack them in the market after she had died in Lagos.
The confusion followed the wild rumour her neighbour, Mr. Goke Ogunyakin had carried that she had died and her corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.
The incident happened at Elaloro Street in Itire, Lagos where both were doing their businesses.
P.M.EXPRESS learnt that Olanrewaju fell sick and did not come to her shop where she sold clothes for some time because of the ailment. When Ogunyakin did not see her after a long time, he started spreading the rumour to both their neighbours and her customers that she had died.
The rumour was still on when Olanrewaju came to her shop to resume business. She noticed that their neighbours were scared and ran away from her. She was surprised and wanted to know what was happening. It was then that one of their neighbours who mustered courage to come closer informed her that her close neighbour, Ogunyakin had told them that she was dead, so they thought she was a ghost and had to run away from her.
She tried to convince them that she was still alive and then confronted Ogunyakin. A fight ensued between them and in the process her clothes got torn.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that while they were fighting publicly, the police patrol team saw them, arrested them and took both to the police station.
They were subsequently charged before Isolo Magistrates court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
They pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Teluwo granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 19 February, 2018.
