Man, 50, Docked For Defiling Neighbour’s Girl, 12

A 50-year old man, Sunday Johnson, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring and engaging his neighbour’s 12-year old girl in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Johnson, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal law of the State.
The incident happened on the 24th day of July 2024, at Mbonu Close, Off Babalola llogbo Road, Oke Agbo Ajangbadi area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, on the 22/04/2025, the victim informed her mother that while they were in their former compound at Mbonu Close Off Babalola llogbo Road, Oke-Agbo, Ajangbadi, Lagos, the suspect had in the month of July, 2024, in the afternoon called her that he wanted to send her on an errand only to draw her inside his room, pull off her clothes and had unlawfully carnal knowledge of her.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Sunday Johnson ‘m’, on the 24th day of July 2024, at Mbonu Close, Off Babalola llogbo Road, Oke Agbo, Ajangbadi area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim ‘f’ 12 years old by having unlawful canal knowledge of her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Paul Ugorji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, O.M. Ajayi, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
