Fake Medical Doctor Docked For Swindling Woman Of N1.7m Over Pregnancy Drugs

A 33-year old fake Medical Doctor, Ogbonna Japhet, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Jecinta llobussi, of the sum of N1.7m under the false pretence of purchasing Cryptic Pregnancy drugs.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in September, 2022 at Ajegunte Close, llogho, Ojo, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect presented himself as a Medical Doctor in charge of Thank God Clinic, located at Transformer Bus Stop, logho, Ojo, Lagos State, knowing same to be false and used it to obtain the money from the victim to procure the drugs.
However, after collecting the money, he bolted away and disconnected every communication he had with the victim. The matter was reported to the Police at Ilembe Hausa Division.
The Police trailed, eventually arrested and detained the suspect at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct. He was found culpable after interrogation and charged before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Ogbonna Japhet ‘m’ and others at large, between September 2022, at No. 4 Ajegunte Close, llogho, Ojo, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit swindling the victim, an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal laws of Lagre Slate 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Ogbonna Japhet’m’ and others at large, on the above date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did by false presence and with intent to defraud obtained the sum of One Million Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N1,750,000.00.00) only from one Jecinta llobussi ‘f’ under the pretence of using same to purchase Cryptic Pregnancy drugs for her, which you failed to do, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigerie, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Ogbonna Japhet ‘m’ and others at large, on the above mentioned date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did convert the sum of one Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N1,750,000.00.00) only property of one Jecinta llobuasi ‘ that was meant for the purchase of Cryptic pregnancy drugs into your personal use without the consent of the rightful owner, and thereby commit an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, Ogbonna Japhet ‘m’ on the above mentioned date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did impersonate or falsely represent yourself to be a medical doctor in charge of Thank God Clinic, situated at Transformer Bus Stop, Ilogho, Ojo, Lagos State, knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 78 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
