The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni has paraded two leaders of National Union of Road Transporters Workers, NURTW, for their alleged involvement in the activities and sponsoring of Eiye Confraternity, a deadly secret cult, in Lagos State.
The suspects, Sunday Ebih and Dosunmu Abiodun, were arrested after the police got information that the suspects were among those sponsoring the Eiye Cult in Shomolu, Fadeyi, Bariga, Yaba and Mushin areas of Lagos.
Ebih and Abiodun are Secretary and Vice Chairman respectively of the Tricycle Workers Association of Nigeria, TWAN, affiliated to NURTW in Abule, Agege area of Lagos.
The Police boss, while parading the suspects among other suspected criminals, said Abiodun and Ebih were arrested after one of the Eiye leaders, Ibrahim, popularly known as Assala implicated them and the police trailed and arrested them.
Both suspects confessed that they are members of the cult group, adding that they joined the cult for protection to retain their position in their work.
Ebih said he joined the group after he went to prison on two different occasions after he was set up in the area. He said after his return from the prison, he realized what was his real problem was that he did not belong to the group in the area. He said after he joined the group, he was immediately appointed as the secretary of TWAN.
Ebih however claimed he did not participate in their activities like fighting and killing of rival members throughout the period he was their member.
He said the only thing he was doing was to provide fund whenever they have any activity such as organising party in the area.
Abiodun on his own part said he joined the group with the hope that he will benefit much only to find out that there was no much benefit, thus he pulled out last year.
According to him, he regretted falling for the false impression sold to him about the cult.
