Woman, 42, Docked For Burgling Shop & Carting Away N3.5m Food Items

A 42-year old woman, Funmilayo Adebiyi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly stealing food items worth over N3.5m belonging to a woman, Olaitan Akinkunmi. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that she has been arrested and charged for stealing over her alleged conduct.
The incident happened at Old Ota Road, Iyana Ekoro, Meiran area of Lagos.
Some of the food items stolen included Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Palm Oil, Groundnut Oil, Dried Pepper, White Beans and Onions.
According to the Police, the suspect went to the complainant’s shop and carted away the items before she was caught and handed over to the Police at Meiran Division for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
COUNT I: “That you, Funmilayo Adebiyi ‘F’ since March 2025 at No. 58, Old Ota Road, Iyana Ekoro Meiran, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Palm Oil, Groundnut Oil, Dried Pepper, White Beans and Onions from the shop of one Olaitan Akinkunmi ‘F’ valued N3,500,000.00 (Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only) and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
