In a significant demonstration of cultural solidarity and respect for traditional leadership, Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma, also known as Ogene Ogbunike, the revered promoter of Ogbunike’s traditional and cultural heritage, paid a courtesy visit to the Council of Ndi Nze na Ozo Azu Ogbunike on Monday, June 30, 2025.

The visit, held at the late Chief J.N. Iloani’s compound, the ancestral meeting ground of Azu Ogbunike, brought together notable title holders, community elders, and cultural enthusiasts, creating an atmosphere rich with Igbo tradition and symbolism.

Speaking during the visit, Ogene Ogbunike emphasized the importance of unity among traditional institutions and reiterated his dedication to the promotion and preservation of Ogbunike’s heritage. He lauded the Council of Ndi Nze na Ozo Azu for their unwavering commitment to cultural values, moral leadership, and community development.

“As Ogene, I carry the voice of our ancestors through the sound of tradition. This visit is not just symbolic; it is a call for unity, peace, continuity, and cultural pride. The Nze na Ozo institution is a sacred pillar in our land, and I am honored to stand in its presence today,” he said.

The Chairman of the Council, Nze Gordian Iloani, warmly received the Ogene, describing the visit as a historic step toward renewed cultural collaboration in Ogbunike.

“The Ogene is a heartbeat of our tradition. His presence here today reaffirms our shared mission to protect and promote our values. We are inspired by his courage, leadership, and unwavering respect for our customs,” he stated.

The Secretary of the Traditional Council of Ndi Nze na Ozo Azu Ogbunike, Nze Emeka Onunkwo, welcomed Ogene Ogbunike, stating that he is doing great with so many cultural activities he has sponsored and promoted within and outside the community. He urged Ogene not to relent in his efforts, saying that God will see him through the race to the throne of Ogbunike.

Highlights of the event included the traditional presentation of kola nut and discussions on the status of Ndi Nze na Ozo Ogbunike in the forthcoming Igwe Ogbunike election. Both parties pledged to work together on cultural enlightenment and peacebuilding efforts within the community.

The visit concluded with blessings from the elders, led by Nze Alex Analike, and a renewed commitment to uphold the spirit of Omenani in Ogbunike.
