Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai Dies At 61

Former goalkeeper of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Peter Rufai, is dead.
Rufai, popularly known as Dodo Mayana, died at 61 having been ill for some time.

The official account of the Super Eagles, Nigerian national football team, on Thursday evening, confirmed the passing of the legendary goalkeeper in a post on Facebook and X.
“Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion,” the post read.

“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai.”
Rufai competed professionally in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, in a senior career that lasted 20 years.
He was the starting goalkeeper when Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations in 1994. He also represented Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the US and the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
