Man, 56, Swindles Victim Of N12m Over Purchase Of Non-Existing Land

A 56-year old man, Kabiru Oladipupo, has landed in trouble for allegedly swindling a man, Ibrahim Kabiru, to the tune of N12m under false pretence of selling a non-existing land.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between 13th and 28th May, 2025, in Ikeja area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the suspect told the complainant that he had 20 Acres of land, which he intented to sell. They negotiated the price for the the said land and he paid the money.

 

However, after the complainant paid the money and he later asked the suspect to prepare the documents and as well show him the land.  The suspect bolted away with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at MAN Centre. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charge read:

“That you, KABIRU OLADIPUPO ‘m’ between 13th and 28th May, 2025 at Ikeja, Lagos, did obtain the sum (N12,500,000:00k) Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only from one Ibrahim Kabiru ‘m’ under the pretence to sell 20 Acres of land with intent to defraud him and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 314 (1)(a) and punishable under Section 314(3 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
