Man, 25, Arraigned For Vandalizing Armoured Cables Worth N19m At Airport

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 16h day of July, 2025, at about 01:30hrs, at Concord area, Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

According to the Police, the suspect wilfully vandalized/damaged electrical armoured cables which supplied power from the FAAN Cooperative to FAAN Training School Round-about. He allegedly went to the place, used some objects to cut the cables and carted away the items worth the said amount.

However, while trying to escape, he was caught and handed over to the Police at the Airport Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

COUNT 1: “That you, Clement Emeka ‘m’, on 16h day of July, 2025, at about 01:30hrs, at Concord area, Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did wilfully vandalize/damage electrical armoured cables that supplied power from FAAN Cooperative to FAAN Training School Round-about valued nineteen million, five hundred thousand Naira (N19,500,000.00), property of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT 2:”That you, Clement Emeka ‘m’, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal electrical armoured cables valued Nineteen million, five hundred thousand Naira (N19,500.000.00), property of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 (1) (a) (b) and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adeitan Oluwabunmi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, M.A. Agbaje, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
