Court Jails Man For Selling ‘Loud’ In Lagos Hotel

Justice Deinde Dipeolu of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced Obayemi Oyetade, for selling loud, a species of Cannabis Sativa popularly called India Hemp, in a hotel in Lagos.

Obayemi Oyetade was convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment by the judge after he pleaded to three counts charge of dealing in the prohibited drug, made against him by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), today.

NDLEA lawyer, Julianna Negedu, had told the court that the convict was arrested on July 19, 2025, at Sarah Sam Hotel, located at 115, Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos, where he was selling the prohibited drug.

Juliana had told the court that the convict was arrested with 22.9 grams of Canadian Loud, 1.30 kilogram of Chocolate infused with Canadian Loud and 900 grams of Gummies mixed with Canadian Loud.

The prosecutor told the court that the act of the convict, contravened section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. And punishable under the same Act.

The convict admitted committing the offence when the charge marked FHC/L/655c/2025, was read to him, and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The convict equally admitted in his confessional statement that he has been selling the banned drug since 2021.

Based on his guilty plea, his confessional statement and exhibit tendered, the prosecutor urged the court to convict and sentence accordingly.

However, the convict’s lawyer, Emmanuel Okenyi, in his allocutor, pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.

Okenyi, also begged the court to give his client a fine option in lieu of the custodian sentence, in view of his client pleaded guilty to the charge at earliest time and for not wasting the time of the court.

Justice Dipeolu in his judgment, sentenced the convict to three months imprisonment. He however ordered him to pay the sum of N1 million as a fine option in lieu of the jail-term.

Charges against the convict read: “That you Obayemi Oyetade, Male, Adult, on or about the 19th July, 2025 at Sarah Sam Hotel No. 115 Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court without lawful authority dealt in 22.9 grams of Canadian Loud strain of Cannabis Sativa, narcotic drug similar to cocaine, heroin and LSD and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

“That you Obayemi Oyetade, Male, Adult, on or about the 19th July, 2025 at Sarah Sam Hotel No. 115 Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court without lawful authority dealt in 1.30 kilogram of Chocolate mixed with Canadian Loud strain of Cannabis Sativa similar to cocaine, heroin and LSD and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004

“That you Obayemi Oyetade, Male, Adult, on or about the 19th July, 2025 at Sarah Sam Hotel No. 115 Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court without lawful authority dealt in 900 grams of Gummies mixed with Canadian Loud strain of Cannabis Sativa similar to cocaine, heroin and LSD and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
