The Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH & PT), Ibadan in Oyo State, has enrolled its entire student body in the Geneith Health Competition (GHC), signaling a major step in the war against malaria in Nigeria.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the initiative was organized by CEOAFRICA, sponsored by Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited and powered by Coatal Forte Softgel.
This is the first of its kind in Africa. It focuses on malaria awareness, education, advocacy and empowerment among students, enabling them to become active agents of health promotion in their communities.
The official flag-off ceremony took place on 16th Septembe, 2025, at the college’s conference room and was attended by members of the institution’s management, stakeholders in the health sector and student leaders.
The event further reinforced the national momentum the competition has gathered since its launch in May 2025 by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, in Abuja.
At the Ibadan launch, the college management reaffirmed its commitment to public health and student welfare, aligning the enrollment with the Federal Government’s eight-point healthcare agenda. The presence of senior academic officials, administrative leaders and the Students Union Government underscored the significance of the occasion.
The Geneith Health Competition has attracted notable support across the health sector, with prominent leaders in pharmacy and medicine actively backing the campaign. A ₦1 billion sponsorship package from Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited, including ₦420 million dedicated to scholarships and cash awards, has further positioned the initiative as a student-centered intervention with far-reaching impact.
Malaria remains one of Nigeria’s most persistent health challenges, with high incidence rates recorded among young people in educational institutions. The GHC aims to reduce this burden by raising awareness, promoting prevention strategies and encouraging sanitation practices that can curb transmission.
With enrollment closing on 15th February, 2026, organizers are calling on other tertiary institutions to follow FCAH&PT’s example and participate in the competition through the official portal at www.geneithhealthcompetition.com
The participation of FCAH&PT sets a precedent for other colleges and universities, highlighting the critical role of educational institutions in advancing public health and mobilizing the youth for a malaria-free Nigeria.
