The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill stipulating that anyone who engages in sexual activity with a minor will face life imprisonment without the possibility of a fine across the States.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the implication of the new law if eventually signed by the President, with the fact that kids these days grow up really fast, you should never do anything with them if you do not know their age.

The landmark bill prescribing life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of sexually assaulting or defiling minors in the country was passed by  the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary session. It seeks to strengthen existing laws on child protection and eliminate leniency for offenders involved in child sexual abuse.

According to the new legislation, any man or woman who engages in sexual intercourse or any form of sexual activity with a minor will face life imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Lawmakers described the move as a necessary step toward safeguarding Nigerian children and ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence.

Several Senators commended the decision, noting that the bill reflects the nation’s growing commitment to ending all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse.

The Senate President lauded the passage of the bill, emphasizing that it would serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders and help restore public confidence in the justice system’s ability to protect vulnerable citizens.

The bill is expected to be transmitted to the House of Representatives for concurrence and subsequently to the President for assent before it becomes law across the States in Nigeria.
