I’m In Support Of State Police – Says Eze Peter Wobeareri Wagbara

Highly respected monarch, His Royal Highness, Eze Peter Wobeareri Wagbara (CP, Rtd), has thrown his weight behind the agitation for State Police.

Eze Wagbara made the disclosure when notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC) paid him a courtesy and solidarity visit in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peace, security, and community development in the Orashi region and Rivers State at large.

The visit, which took place on Friday, December 13, 2025, was led by the President General of the Orashi National Congress, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, alongside members of the Congress’s leadership.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Emeni Ibe expressed deep appreciation to the monarch for his critical role in safeguarding lives and property, both during his active years in the Nigeria Police Force and in his reign as a traditional ruler. He commended HRH Wagbara for providing effective security in his domain, noting that the prevailing peace in the area is a testament to the monarch’s commitment and leadership.

The ONC President General described the Orashi National Congress as an independent socio-cultural umbrella body dedicated to the promotion of sustainable security, peace, dialogue, national unity, and justice. He emphasized that the Congress remains committed to mobilizing Orashi people to embrace dialogue and lawful engagement with security agencies as the best means of resolving conflicts.

In recognition of HRH Wagbara’s consistent efforts in promoting peace and security, the Orashi National Congress conferred on him the honorary title of Ambassador of Peace (AP). Comrade Emeni Ibe stated that the honour was a result of a careful assessment of the monarch’s performance and his unwavering presence at the forefront of peace-building initiatives.

Responding, His Royal Highness, Eze Peter Wobeareri Wagbara, expressed gratitude to the Orashi National Congress for finding him worthy of the recognition. He applauded the Congress for its sustained advocacy for peace and encouraged it to continue promoting dialogue over violence across the region and Rivers State.
Reflecting on his career, the monarch noted that he had served on international peacekeeping missions, including in Sudan under the United States peacekeeping framework, and that he had also received recognition in South Africa. “I have paid my dues,” he said, underscoring his lifelong commitment to peace and security.

HRH Wagbara also praised the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his support of the State Police initiative, describing it as a positive development that would help reduce crime at the local level. He assured the Orashi National Congress of his full support in sustaining peace and stability in the state.
The visit ended on a cordial note, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, security, and harmonious coexistence in the Orashi region and beyond.
