European Union Delegates Visit APC Think Tank, Pledge Support

The Progressive Institute, TPI Monday played host to delegates from the European Union, EU at the institute’s office in Abuja.
The EU Delegates, Aguiedec Torres and Xenia Stoll laud the All Progressives Congress, APC for setting up such a capacity building institute, noting that TPI will further strengthen democratic governance in the country.
In her remark, Aguiedec Torres, an EU Political officer noted that Nigeria’s success is very important to the European Union.
“European Union is the biggest partner of Nigeria’s democracy. We want Nigeria to succeed and we will continue to help Nigeria to grow its democracy. We will do more to support Nigeria,” She said.
The EU Delegates also pledge to facilitate more training and capacity building programs that will empower the Nigerians in its quest for rapid socio-economic and political development. “We will be glad to invite you to some of our training programs”.
Earlier, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, the Director General, DG of The Progressive Institute commended the EU delegates for the visit.
The DG introduced some of the management staff of TPI and expressed readiness to partner with the EU. Dr Adebayo also enlightened the delegates on the programs and activities of the TPI since its inception.
“Since the inauguration of TPI in September, 2024, we have been working round the clock to develop meaningful policies that will aid the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. One of such policies emanated from our Three Day Skills Acquisition Conference. The report of the conference is being given attention by Mr. President. We have also engaged in capacity training programs in many states. We are not relenting on our effort as we have developed a business plan that would guarantee the sustainability of the institute. This, if well implemented has a way of sustaining the independence of TPI,” the DG said as he talked about the propose APC Ideological Development which according to him is in the pipeline.
Shedding more light on TPI Business Plan, Dr. Bassey Ibor, TP Director of Finance and Account noted that the institute cannot fully deliver on its mandate without funding.
Dr. Bassey acknowledged the role of the EU in Nigeria democratic development calling on all international organization including the EU and Civic Society Organization to support The Progressive Institute.
Barrister Ego Queen-Ezuma, TPI Director of Legal Services stated that the institute as the Think Tank of the ruling party has what it takes, including the time, knowledge and expertise especially the human resources to develop research and projects that will benefit Nigerians.
On his part, TPI Director Planning and Research Development, Honourable Dauda Muhammad Sambo said that the TPI is mandated to train the members and potential members of the APC on the ideal of Progressive Ideology.
Honourable Sambo stated that partnering with the EU will afford TPI the opportunity to exchange ideas.
He however commends the EU as the highest donor to election education in Nigeria.
